'Help mentally ill reintegrate'
KUALA LUMPUR: The public should remove all forms of discrimination against persons who have recovered from mental illness so that they can be reintegrated into society, said the chairman of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (Niosh), Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.
He suggested that an Employee Assistance Programme, which can provide both prevention and early intervention with regard to problems related to mental health, stress and emotional issues which affect job performance, be made available.
"The identification of problems at the workplace related to poor mental health with a view towards developing a mental healthcare programme for the workforce should also be introduced.
"The neglect of mental health and psychosocial factors at the workplace is not only detrimental to the individual worker, but also directly affects efficiency, effectiveness and output of any enterprise," he said yesterday. -- Bernama
