Pencapaian

At the international level, the KPWKM has played an important role in championing the rights of women as well as the development of women, family and community. Some of KPWKM's activities at the international level are:

  1. Signing of the Declaration on Elimination of Violence against Women in the ASEAN Region. This declaration which aimed at increasing regional cooperation in eradicating violence towards women was signed by the ASEAN foreign ministers in July 2004.
     
  2. The KPWKM represented Malaysia in signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Indonesia on 8 August 2002. This MoU was concerned with empowerment of women and family development between the two nations. With this MoU, both countries shared experiences, knowledge and programmes towards the development of women and family well-being.
     
  3. A similar MoU was signed by the KPWKM with Iran on 22 July 2002. This MoU also aimed at increasing cooperation between Malaysia and Iran in the area of women and family.
     
  4. The KPWKM also organised several workshops and dialogues at the international level:

    • Asia Regional Workshop on Strengthening Partnerships for Eliminating Gender-Based Violence in Kuala Lumpur on 20 – 22 May 2002;
       
    • Regional Training Workshop for NGOs and Women's Organisations from Southeast Asia on Poverty Alleviation with the cooperation of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), in Kuala Lumpur on 14 – 16 October 2004;
       
    • The First Ladies' Dialogue on Investing in Peace in conjunction with the XIII NAM in Putrajaya on 24 February 2003; and
       
    • OIC First Ladies' Dialogue on Women, Peace and Development in conjunction with the Tenth OIC Summit 2003 in Kuala Lumpur on 17 October 2003.
